Music in Our Community WELCOMES YOU!

Music in Our Community is a collaborative effort between Ken Perrin of Circle Entertainment of Southport, NC  and Martha Myers of Cape Fear Concerts, to expand concert offerings in the greater Cape Fear/South Brunswick Islands region of southeastern North Carolina.  What we envision is a folk music concert series, with some events being larger concerts, seating up to 200 people, and others being house, and/or outdoor concerts for audiences of 50-100 people.  The performers for the larger concerts will come from a combination of national, regional, and local talent, all falling into the Americana/Folk genre of music, while the smaller shows will feature  primarily lesser known artists, new talent, local musicians, or anyone preferring a smaller venue.

Cape Fear Concerts was “born” in November 2007, when Martha took a “leap of faith”, and embarked on a venture to organize and promote a concert by nationally acclaimed folk singer, songwriter, and musician, John McCutcheon. In addition, the event was a fundraiser for the Southport-Oak Island Food Pantry, which required having sufficient funds to pay the performer, and donate to the Pantry. Thanks to the generous support of the local business community, the venture was a success, in more ways than  could have ever been  imagined.  A generous donation to the Food Pantry, the performer’s costs, including lodging and meals were covered, the music was well received by the community, and the performer expressed an interest in scheduling a return engagement. Due to the success of that first event, and feedback from the community indicating a desire to have more shows of a similar nature, a second concert took place in June, featuring Molasses Creek, of Ocracoke Island, NC. Since that time, other shows have included Anne Haley and Friends, Bryan Bowers, and Bob Zentz.

We are always open to suggestions of potential performers, and are, of course, always willing to accept donations, in any amount, that will help make this dream become a reality. This past year has seen the following performers schedule shows in Southport - Jen Chapin, Jason Wilber, Ryan Montbleu Band, Heather Waters. Our initial goal is to be able to present one concert per month, but we can only do that through support of our events by you, the listeners, through attending and by helping to spread the word about our shows.

THANKS for visiting, and hope to catch you at an upcoming concert. Watch this site for updates and new shows as they are scheduled.

Martha Myers & Ken Perrin
